Work for us
It is one thing to provide reliable legal advice, but it’s our people who provide the genuine, great service that our clients trust.
As the largest law firm in the Manawatū, Fitzherbert Rowe Lawyers offers employees variety and plenty of opportunities for professional development and growth.
We value people who are committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients, those who have an eye for detail and who are dedicated to delivering results.
The Manawatū is a fantastic place to live and work. Our city has first-class educational, sporting and health facilities and is large enough to attract large scale events. At the same time, it is less than a 15-minute drive to get from one side of the city to another, which means less time stuck in traffic and more time enjoying the things you love.
Fitzherbert Rowe Lawyers is a modern and progressive employer. We expect our staff to work hard, but we encourage good work-life balance and are committed to providing our staff with the professional support they need to develop their career.
Individual vacancies will be advertised but we are always open to expressions of interest from exceptional people.

Students
Graduate programme
Our graduate programme is open to students in their final year of study.
The programme begins at the start of November. You will be assigned a “buddy” and a Partner “mentor” to help with the transition from student life to full-time work in a professional environment. We encourage our graduates to undertake their Professional Legal Studies in the first six months of employment and then apply to the Law Society for a practising certificate.
Our graduates rotate across the different service lines in the first year. We believe that this allows our graduates to identify what type of law they are genuinely interested in and primarily want to specialise in.
Fitzherbert Rowe Lawyers has offices in Palmerston North, Feilding, Dannevirke, Waipukurau and Levin. The graduate programme is available in each of these locations.
If you would like to apply for our graduate programme, please email your covering letter and CV to careers@fitzrowe.co.nz. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to email Claire Pedley, General Manager at c.pedley@fitzrowe.co.nz.
Please note: We are no longer taking Graduate applications for 2024, these opportunities have already been filled.
Summer Clerkship Programme
Our summer clerkship programme is open to students who are in their third or second to last year of study and is designed to give you a taste of what it is like to work in a law firm.
The clerkship will provide you with the opportunity to gain experience across several of the services that we provide to our clients. You will be assigned a “buddy” and a Partner “mentor” for the duration of your summer clerkship. The purpose of this is to help with the transition from student life to full-time work in a professional environment.
At the end of the summer clerkship programme you will give a presentation to management on your summer clerkship. Following this presentation and after receiving feedback from your buddy and Partner mentor, we may offer a second summer clerkship the following summer or a graduate position which will start the following February.
